Psalm 62:2 and SRYG

Psalm 62:2 says, "Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken." This verse inspired our name, Solid Rock Youth Group (SRYG). Here's why:

Truly he is my rock...

Think about students for a moment. Their classes, teachers, and friends change. Not only that, culture and trends change, and even more importantly, they are changing. In Malachi 3:6a God says, "I the Lord do not change." This is good news to students because they can run to God for a firm foundation in the face of a constantly changing world.

and my salvation;

The core of our ministry is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Psalmist recognized the need for salvation and God provided the only way to eternal salvation through Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection. Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me," (John 14:6). We want to see God use SRYG to save young people from their sins and gain fellowship with the Creator of the universe.

he is my fortress,

A fortress is a stronghold around a city. It is a safe place to run when a town or nation is under attack (or a doomsday bunker when the zombie apocalypse hits). The question is, where do we go when our lives seem to be falling apart? Where can we run when we feel attacked? God is our fortress.

I will not be shaken.

One of the things we want to offer students is hope. Often, students feel the weight of depression, extreme sadness, and heartbreak. Young people are dealing with broken relationships, difficult friendships and/or shattered hearts. But one thing that can pull them through and hold them together is the hope that is offered through the Gospel of Jesus.

SRYG SAFE CHURCH POLICY

We want to create a safe environment where students can learn about Jesus. With that goal in mind, we hold to the Safe Church Policy as

drafted by Rock of Life and Unity CRC.

SRYG STUDENT GUIDELINES

As we seek to glorify Jesus through all that we do, we have some basic standards of behavior that we share with our students. This is for the safety

and well-being of everyone in SRYG.
